Matt Forte Expected To Skip Next Weeks Offseason Workouts

According to Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune, Bears RB Matt Forte is expected skip the team’s offseason program which begins next Monday.

In order for him to attend, he would have to sign his franchise tender of $7.7 million and he doesn’t appear to be willing to do so. Forte will have until July 16 to workout a long-term contract with the Bears, but even if a deal not reached by then, he’ll still end up playing for the franchise tender.

Forte figures to missing Chicago mandatory minicamp and could holdout into the season depending on things go in the coming weeks. Biggs notes that a long-term deal is nowhere close to being done.
