Matt Forte Looking For A New Contract?

Chicago Bears RB Matt Forte burst onto the NFL season during his rookie year but his production sharply fell of last season. Thankfully for the Bears and Forte he was able to return to form last season. The only issue now is that Forte’s increased value could lead to him possibly holding out if the Bears aren’t willing to address his current contract.

It’s hard to argue with Forte wanting a new deal considering that he making $600,000 while is backup Chester Taylor is pulling in a staggering $7 million for the 2011 season. There’s little question as to who’s the better running back which should help Forte once the lockout is finally lifted.

My agent is handling that, and he’s in talks with the Bears people,” Forte said yesterday while on the “Carmen, Jurko & Harry” radio show on ESPN 1000, per Michael C. Wright of ESPNChicago.com. “Look at the stats over the last three years, and I’m among the top five running backs in all-purpose yards and touchdowns and all that stuff. So hopefully we can do something.”

The stats are hard to argue with and the Bears are certainly aware of his value to the team. Forte flourished in Mike Martz‘s offense last season and should continue to threat in the ground game and out of the backfield for the team. He’s worth the investment and I’d expect the Bears to compensate him.
