Matt Kalil Would “Love” To Re-Sign With Vikings & Finish Out Career In Minnesota

Vikings impending free agent Matt Kalil said that he would “love” to re-sign with the team and finish out his career in Minnesota.

“I’d love to stay here the rest of my career,” Kalil said, via Chris Tomasson of the Pioneer Press. “This is the team I started out with in the NFL, and I’ve been playing with these guys. I’ve met a lot of great friends here, my wife is from here. It’d be a good place to finish my career.

Since Kalil has gone down, the Vikings have sustained a number of injuries to offensive linemen. Kalil admitted that it’s tough to watch the team go through these struggles.

“It’s just tough to watch,” Kalil said. “I want to be out there. I want to play. I love the guys I play with, and I know they’ll get back on track. It’s a tough situation with a lot of guys getting injured.”

The Vikings placed Kalil on injured reserve back in September after he suffered a hip injury that required surgery.

Kalil, 27, is a former first-round pick of the Vikings back in 2012. He played out his rookie contract but the Vikings elected to pick up his fifth-year option, which came with a base salary of $11.09 million for the 2016 season.

Kalil is in line to be an unrestricted free agent next year.

His 2016 season came to an end with him appearing in two games for the Vikings. Pro Football Focus had him rated as the No. 65 offensive tackle out of 67 qualifying players at the time.
