Update: Matt Leinart’s Options

Peter King reported last night that the Houston Texans could be an option Matt Leinart and suggested that the Tennessee Titans could also have some amount of interest in him. A pairing of Vince Young and Matt Leinart would be a pretty amazing situation given that they had been such bitter rivals in college.

Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports added the Minnesota Vikings and the Jacksonville Jaguars to the list of suitors.

One day into his free agency, we are already getting reports concerning some of Matt Leinarts potential options. One rumor in-particular had the Seahawks as a possible destination for the former Heisman Trophy winner.

Clark Judge of CBS Sports has already gotten word from sources close to the team that have made it clear that this is not going to happen. Seattle traded for Charlie Whitehurst early into the offseason, with the intention to have him replace Matt Hassellbeck at some point. Bringing in Leinart would be an obvious indication that they are not comfortable with Whitehurst as their long-term option. If his former coach Pete Carroll is reluctant to bring him in, he will have a tough time finding a team that will be willing to gamble on him as their starter.

There are still teams in need of a solid backup quarterback. The Bills, Bengals and Raiders could be options now that he’s a free-agent but we’ll have to see how things progress.
