Matt Light’s Time In New England Coming To An End?

ESPNBoston.com’s Mike Reiss writes that the Patriots are not likely to match any offer that they see as an over-value salary for veteran OT Matt Light. Adam Schefter also discussed Light’s future during a recent mailbag and seems to agree with Reiss.

Reading the tea leaves would tell you that Light will be let go. For starters, the Patriots used a second-round pick in 2009 on offensive tackle Sebastian Vollmer and then used their first-round pick this April on Colorado offensive tackle Nate Solder and their fifth-round pick on Marcus Cannon. If the Patriots are going to pay an offensive lineman, it’s going to be Logan Mankins, not Light. The Patriots will monitor the market for Light and see what his value is. But with the tackles they’ve drafted, and with the way they’ve acted in the past, the signs point to Light leaving New England after a highly successful run there,” writes Schefter.

One speculative option could be the Kansas City Chiefs who are familiar with New England players considering that Scott Pioli was with them before taking over the Chiefs. Left tackle happens to be one of the more important positions in the NFL so there certainly will be interest in Light but his age, 33, could be a bit of aconcern.
