Maurice Jones-Drew Will Undergo Surgery, Out Until May

The Jacksonville Jaguars announced that RB Maurice Jones-Drew will undergo surgery on his foot Friday and is expected to be out until May.

It’s certainly puzzling to see the Jaguars hold off on placing him on the injured reserve list and wait for him to undergo surgery. They could have made this move months ago and insured that Jones-Drew would have been better prepared for camp.

MJD will enter the final year of his contract, so he has every incentive to put together a great season next year. It’s still hard to imagine him securing a huge deal at that point, but it’s certainly a possibility.

Ryan O’Halloran reports that Jaguars RB Maurice Jones-Drew has been placed on the injured/reserved list due to his lingering foot injury suffered in week 7.

Jones-Drew has been the centerpiece of the Jaguars offense for a number of years, but it was quite clear that the team wasn’t capable of finding a rhythm without him. Jones-Drew held out last offseason, but has already mentioned that he will not do so again this year.
