Maurice Jones-Drew Set To Regain His Starting Job?

Jaguars head coach Mike Mularkey named running back Rashad Jennings the teams starting running back heading into week one, since Maurice Jones-Drew had just returned to the team, following his recent holdout. That didn’t last too long as Jennings hurt his knee in the first half and was unable to return. Jones-Drew stepped in for Jennings and showed that he was ready to be the Jaguars feature back again.

“I think he did well,” Mularkey acknowledged, via the Florida Times-Union. “I still think he has some work to do, but I was proud with how he picked up the system. I don’t remember anything blatant he missed, and I thought he ran the ball extremely well. Obviously, I was glad he was available.”

It’s unclear at this point if Jennings will be ready for next week’s game against the Texans. With the way Jones-Drew played yesterday, it will be interesting to see how much more playing time the Jaguars give him, assuming Jennings is able to play. It shouldn’t be long before Jones-Drew is back as the Jaguars’ starting running back.
