Michigan TE Jake Butt Needs Surgery For Torn ACL

ESPN’s Adam Schefter, citing a source close to the University of Michigan, reports that Wolverines TE Jake Butt suffered a torn ACL during Friday’s Orange Bowl and will know need to undergo surgery in the coming weeks.

  • Darren Rovell reports that Butt has a $2 million loss of value policy that he will begin to collect on if he drops out of the second round.

ACL injuries typically keep a player out around 9 months or so, Butt would have a hard time being ready for the start of the 2017 season.

There has been so much made about draft prospects participating in meaningless bowl games when they have so much at stake in terms of their NFL careers.

Even so, Butt tweeted out that he wouldn’t have sat out of the game, even knowing the obvious risk

Butt, 21, is considered to be one of the best tight end prospects in next year’s draft class. This injury will prevent him from taking part in the draft process but he will be a popular name at the combine when it comes to medical checks.

During his college career at Michigan, Butt has caught 138 passes for 1,646 yards receiving and 11 touchdowns over the course of 43 games.
