Mike Mayock: Andrew Luck Is Not A “Once-In-A-Lifetime” Prospect

Yesterday, the NFL Network’s draft analyst Mike Mayock held a conference call to discuss some of this year’s draft class. One interesting note from that was that Mayock spefically mentioned that he doesn’t see Stanford QB Andrew Luck as the “once-in-a-lifetime” prospect” that feel he is.

As far as ability, I don’t think he’s quite in the Peyton Manning mold,” said Mayock, via the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “… I think he’s got a little more ability than a Matt Ryan when he came out. But, I don’t put him up there as a once in a lifetime guy. … I think he’s in the same category with a (Sam) Bradford. . . I’m not sitting here telling you that I think he’s going to be Tom Brady or Peyton Manning.”

A comparison to Sam Bradford isn’t exactly worth all that much these days as he’s struggled in his first two season in the NFL but Bradford was a can’t miss prospect coming out of Oklahoma so Mayock is essentially trying to temper some of the expectations for Luck.

Mayock mentioned that he expects Luck to run close to a 4.7 forty at the Combine and to be the first overall pick in the draft.
