Mike McCarthy Only Pursuing Jets’ HC Job

Adam Schefter reports that former Packers HC Mike McCarthy is only pursuing the New York Jets’ head coaching vacancy and is not interested any other jobs around the league.

The list of reported interviews for the Jets includes:

  1. Chiefs OC Eric Bieniemy (Interviewed)
  2. Former Dolphins HC Adam Gase (Interviewed)
  3. Cowboys passing game coordinator/DBs coach Kris Richard (Expected)
  4. Buccaneers OC Todd Monken (Requested)
  5. Former Lions & Colts HC Jim Caldwell (Expected)
  6. Iowa State coach Matt Campbell (Declined)
  7. USC OC Kliff Kingsbury (Expected)
  8. Baylor HC Matt Rhule (Interested)
  9. Former Packers HC Mike McCarthy (Interviewed)

Yesterday, Rob Demovksy reported that the Browns spoke with either McCarthy or his reps on Monday but put negotiations “on hold” while Cleveland spoke to other head-coaching candidates.

However, it appears that McCarthy is not interested in the Browns’ job and is only focused on the Jets.  According to Demovksy, McCarthy remains “very much in play” for the Jets’ job.

As of now, McCarthy has only interviewed for the Jets head-coaching position. The expectation was that he would meet with the Browns at some point this week.

McCarthy, 55, began his NFL coaching career with the Chiefs back in 1993 as an offensive quality control coordinator. He bounced around with the Packers, Saints and 49ers before the Packers hired him as their head coach in 2006.

The Packers made the decision to move on from McCarthy following their disappointing loss to the Cardinals in Week 13.

During his 13-year tenure in Green Bay, McCarthy has led the Packers to a record of 125-77-2 (61.8 percent), which includes nine playoff appearances and a Super Bowl title in 2010.
