Jaguars Dismiss HC Mike Mularkey

New Jaguars GM Dave Caldwell has already made the decision to part ways with head coach Mike Mularkey, per Adam Schefter

There’s been plenty of speculation that this move could be coming. Jacksonville is reportedly interested in 49ers offensive coordinator Greg Roman, so it will be interesting to see who they line up as coaching candidates in the coming days.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter mentions that Rams OC Brian Schottenheimer could also be an option for Jacksonville.

It’s hard to blame Caldwell for wanting to hire his own head coach. General managers often do not get a second chance in the league, so sticking with a coach who they inherited could cost them a year of their building plan. The situation is really unfortunate for Mularkey as he spent time working with Caldwell in Atlanta.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that new Jaguars GM Dave Caldwell is unlikely to keep Mike Mularkey in place as their head coach next season.

Caldwell worked with Mularkey while in Atlanta, but there has been a good of speculation that Caldwell would consider replacing him with 49ers offensive coordinator Greg Roman.

Schefter adds that “no final decisions have been made” just yet, so there’s at least a remote a chance that Mularkey could survive to coach another season with the team.
