Mike Shanahan Interested In Coaching Another NFL Team

Former Redskins and Broncos HC Mike Shanahan told USA Today’s Jarrett Bell this week that he’s interested in becoming an NFL coach again.

Although, Shanahan did specify that he would only do so if he had an opportunity to coach a Super Bowl contender who had the right ownership in place, and enough cap space so that changes could be made in free agency if needed.

If I get back into coaching, it would have to be a situation where there was a realistic opportunity to win a Super Bowl,” Shanahan said.

You could interpret the part about having “the right ownership” a few different ways.

The Redskins relieved Shanahan of his duties in December of last year. The move came as little surprise as the writing was clearly on the wall that changes would be made after the team posted a disappointing record of 3-13 and had to send the No. 2 overall pick to the Rams.

Shanahan’s overall record in four seasons as the Redskins head coach is 24-40 (.375), but he has won 55 percent of his NFL games and two Super Bowl titles as a head coach over the course of his career.

We’ll have to see if his name surfaces as a potential option for teams looking to make a change following the regular season.
