Mike Wallace Not Expected To Attend OTA’s

The Pittsburgh Steelers will be beginning their organized team activities, better known as OTA’s, and will begin learning new offensive coordinator Todd Haley’s offense for the first time, on Tuesday. According to Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, WR Mike Wallace will not be in attendance.

Wallace has yet to sign his one year, restricted free agent tender, which would pay him approximately $2.7 million for the 2012 season. He has expressed little interest in reporting to camp without having signed a long-term deal with the team. General Manager Kevin Colbert has said signing Wallace to a long-term contract is a priority, but they are reportedly far apart in negotiations.

The key date in all this is June 15th, when the Steelers are allowed to change the amount of the tender to 110 percent of Wallace’s 2011 salary. This would lower his 2012 salary to $577,000, but they are not expected to do so, however, at least not before the opening of training camp.
