Mike Zimmer Confirms Case Keenum Will Remain Starter, But QB Situation Still “Week To Week”

Vikings HC Mike Zimmer mentioned Friday that Case Keenumwill be the starter next week” for their game against the Falcons, per Andrew Krammer. However, Zimmer added that the situation at quarterback is still “week to week.

Zimmer has previously indicated that they’re willing to turn to Teddy Bridgewater should Keenum struggle to perform, but there’s just no way Minnesota could bench Keenum based on how well he’s played for them this year.

Keenum, 29, wound up signing on with the Texans as an undrafted free agent out of Houston back in 2013. He spent two years with the Texans before he was claimed off of waivers by the Rams.

Keenum later returned to the Texans before being traded back to the Rams for a 2016 seventh-round pick. The Rams elected to use a first-round tender on Keenum last year that paid him $3.635 million for the 2016 season.

The Vikings signed Keenum to a one-year, $2 million contract this offseason, so he’ll be an unrestricted free agent again next year.

In 2017, Keenum has appeared in 10 games for the Vikings thrown for 2,476 yards while completing 66.1 percent of his passes to go along with 14 touchdowns and five interceptions. He has also rushed for 103 yards and a touchdown.

Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 13 quarterback out of 38 qualifying players.
