Mitch Trubisky Still A “Serious Consideration” For Browns At No. 1 Overall

Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, citing league sources, reports that UNC QB Mitch Trubisky is still under “serious consideration” by the Browns at No. 1 overall.

Earlier in the week, Browns GM Sashi Brown strongly indicated that they have zeroed in on Texas A&M DE/OLB Myles Garrett. However, Cabot says that Cleveland is still considering the possibility of going with Trubisky to open this year’s draft.

According to Cabot’s sources, the feeling in regards to the Browns’ front office is that they are ready to draft their quarterback of the future and may not want to risk him being drafted by another team.

Cabot adds that sources have told her to not be surprised if the 49ers take Trubisky at No. 2 overall should the Browns pass on him, as they also like him a lot.

While some may see this as a smokescreen, Cabot mentions that her serious believe the Browns’ interest in Trubisky is real and he may not get past the Jets at No. 6 overall, which could leave the Titans in a great position to trade out of No. 5 overall.

Recent reports have said that the team is split on going with a quarterback or taking Garrett with the first pick in this year’s draft.

Jason La Canfora mentioned that Browns owner Jimmy Haslambadly wants a quarterback.” As the process has gone on, Haslam has reportedly been asking about quarterbacks and why so few decision makers have been banging the drum for a quarterback at No. 1 overall, per La Canfora.

Trubisky, 22, is considered by a number of draft experts to be the No. 1 quarterback prospect in this year’s draft class, even though he started just one year at North Carolina.

Trubisky has worked out for or visited with the Bills, 49ers, Jets, Chiefs and Browns.

During his three-year college career, Trubisky has thrown for 4,762 yards while completing 67.5 percent of his passes to go along with 41 touchdowns and 10 interceptions over the course of 31 games. He’s also contributed another 439 yards rushing and eight touchdowns.

We have him being selected by the Browns in the first Round of our 2017 NFL Mock Draft.
