Multiple Teams Have Reached Out Buccaneers Regarding No. 1 Pick

Rand Getlin reports that multiple teams have reached out the Buccaneers to inquire about the team’s asking price for the No. 1 overall pick.

According to Getlin, though the Buccaneers are willing to listen to inquiries, they’ve yet to receive a strong enough proposal for an interested team to seriously consider trading out of the No. 1 spot.

It shouldn’t come as much of a surprise to hear that teams are contacting the Buccaneers about the No. 1 pick, especially given all the buzz that the Titans could consider moving out of the No. 2 spot.

If teams are willing to move up to No. 2 for a quarterback like Oregon’s Marcus Mariota, they should at least have an idea of what the No. 1 overall pick would cost them.

For months now, the consensus view has been that the Buccaneers will take Florida State QB Jameis Winston to start the draft. However, there appears to be a growing contingent of Mariota supporters who believe he could end up having the better long-term career.

According to Joey Johnston of the Tampa Tribune, the Buccaneers spoke to upwards of 75 people about Winston to get a better understanding of the off-the-field issues and character concerns teams have regarding the former Heisman Trophy winner.

Buccaneers GM Jason Licht recently confirmed that they’ve done extensive work on Winston.

“We’ve talked to a lot of people. ‘A lot’ is probably not a big enough word,” Licht said. “We are not going to talk about the process. All I’ll tell you is that the Glazer family, the head coach, the general manager, our staffs, we all couldn’t feel more confident about the process we have gone through.

For what it’s worth, we have the Buccaneers taking Winston at No. 1 overall in our recently updated two-round NFL Mock Draft.
