Could Be Must-Win Game For Chargers HC Mike McCoy Tonight

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that tonight’s game against the Broncos is “as big of a must-win game as you can imagine” for Chargers HC Mike McCoy.

There are people in the building who thought a firing of McCoy and potentially some coaches could come before the Raiders game, so all eyes will be on this performance tonight,” Rapoport said. “If they do lose to the Broncos and if they lose in an ugly fashion, more eyes will be on San Diego tomorrow morning.”

The Chargers will have an additional few days to prepare for their Week 7 game against the Falcons, which means if they are to make a change during the season, tomorrow would be one of the best times to do it.

Should McCoy be replaced, it seems likely that OC Ken Whisenhunt would take over as the team’s interim head coach.

There was talk after last season that McCoy was likely to be out but the team ultimately decided to give him a one-year extension.

McCoy, 44, was hired by the Chargers back in 2013. He’s led them to a record of 23 and 30 (43.4 percent) to go along with one playoff appearance and a 1-1 playoff record.

We’ll have more regarding McCoy and his status with the Chargers as the news is available.
