Mutual Interest Between Steelers & James Harrison Regarding His Return

Ian Rapoport mentions that he spoke with the agent for Steelers free agent OLB James Harrison, Bill Parise, who mentioned that Pittsburgh wants his client back next year.

According to Parise, Harrison would also like to re-sign with the Steelers, so it appears as though it’s just a matter of time before the two parties come to an agreement on a new contract.

Steelers HC Mike Tomlin mentioned close to a month ago that he’s open to the team re-signing Harrison.

Before that, Harrison told reporters “I’m not done” when asked about his future in the NFL, per Josina Anderson.

Harrison, 38, originally signed on with the Steelers as an undrafted free agent out of Kent State back in 2002. He had a brief stint with the Ravens but returned to the Steelers in 2004 and eventually secure a long-term extension from the team.

Pittsburgh, unfortunately, released him in 2013 and Harrison spent a year with the Bengals before returning to the Steelers at the start of the 2014 season.

In 2016, Harrison appeared in 15 games for the Steelers and recorded five sacks, an interception, two forced fumbles and a pass defense. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 11 edge defender out of 109 qualifying players.

We have him featured in our Top 100 – 2017 Free Agents list.
