New Contracts Coming For Victor Cruz & Osi Umenyiora?

New York Giants GM Jerry Reese indicated that they’re considering offering WR Victor Cruz and DE Osi Umenyiora at some point during the offseason.

Reese specifically mentioned that a new contract for Cruz is on their “plate” and added that they’ve had “a little” discussion regarding an extension for Umenyiora.

I’m still open to that,” Reese said regarding an extension for Umenyiora. “There has been a little bit of talk, but it is a long way to go before we play and a lot of things for us to do. That is on our plate as well.”

Cruz has said that he has no plans to holdout after putting together a breakout season for the Giants in 2011. He’s set to make $540,000 for the upcoming season, but the Giants are aware that it’s probably in their best interest to address him in the near future, rather than find themselves in a similar situation to that of the Steelers and Mike Wallace.

As for Umenyiora, he’ll make $3.9 million for the upcoming season, which just happens to be the final year of his contract. Umenyiora has backed off of his previous trade demands and has said that he would like to remain in New York. His asking price will ultimately dictate what happens.
