New Drug Policy Agreement Would Lift Broncos WR Wes Welker’s Suspension

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Broncos WR Wes Welker‘s suspension would be lifted if a new drug deal is passed in the near future.

TheĀ NFLPA has scheduled a vote for Friday regarding a new drug policy that will include all 32 players reps. The overall expectation is that it would pass if the Players Association actually held a vote.

However, Albert Breer mentions that not all suspensions will be lifted. Instead, only the situations that fall in line with the rule changes will be adjusted.

Welker was suspended four games for the use of amphetamines. Previous reports mentioned that Welker took Molly at the Kentucky Derby back in May that was cut with amphetamines, which ultimately triggered a positive test.

Welker, 33, is entering the final year of hisĀ two-year, $12 million contract that he signed in 2013. He has a base salary ofĀ $3 millionĀ to go along with theĀ $3 million roster bonusĀ the Broncos have already paid him.

He sustained a concussion during the preseason and there was talk that the Broncos were considering holding him out of the season-opener anyways.

We’ll have more updates as the news is available.
