Albert Breer of NFL Network is reporting that New England Patriots wide receiver Wes Welker has signed his franchise tender, citing a “source with knowledge of the situation”.

Welker said on Monday that he would not let his holdout extend into the season.

“There’s $9.5 million reasons why I won’t miss any regular season games,” said Welker.

Obviously, he kept to his word. He will now earn $9.5 million (the value of the tag) in 2012. Welker was the Patriots’ leading receiver last year, catching 122 passes (most in the league) for 1,569 yards (second-most) and 9 touchdowns (sixth most).
