New York Giants TE Martellus Bennett Defends Weight Gain

Mike Garafolo reports on Twitter that New York Giants tight-end Martellus Bennett’s weight gain from 265 to 291 pounds is a result of being in great shape, and wanted to bulk up.

Bennett also said that his “pants size has gone down.” There had been a fair amount of talk among the league concerning his gain in weight, and Giants TE coach Mike Pope has said that Bennett “probably has a little too big for his legs to carry.”

Bennett joined New York in the offseason, following four seasons with the Giants’ NFC East rivals, the Dallas Cowboys. 291 pounds is the weight an offensive lineman should be, so the likelihood is that Bennett will slim down this summer.
