NFC East Notes: Cowboys, Eagles, Giants

Cowboys

One report from last year mentioned that the Cowboys had spoken to retired TE Jason Witten about returning to the team.

Witten admitted that he “missed the heck out of playing” but the idea of him returning to the Cowboys was never a serious option.

“It would have been hard to do that. In season, the challenge of that,” Witten said, via Clarence Hill of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “Those guys did that work.  They deserve what they had last year. They put in the time. They were 3-5. They battled back. For me that is where the sense of accomplishment comes from, not catching a pass on 3rd and 7. It’s all the work that goes into that that motivates me that I take gratification from. It’s doing all the work to get there, not just to come in. That wouldn’t have been right to come back in the middle of that even in the midst of wanting to be part of a playoff run or much I see myself pulling for them. That wouldn’t have been a real possibility.

Eagles

  • Jimmy Kempski of PhillyVoice.com takes a look at three free agents that could make sense for the Eagles this offseason including RB Tevin Coleman, WR John Brown, and TE Maxx Williams.
  • John Ourand mentions that the Thanksgiving night game will likely be the Eagles at the Vikings. (Sports Illustrated)

Giants

  • Jay Glazer of the Athletic predicts the Giants will trade WR Odell Beckham Jr this offseason after the team listened to trade offers for the star receiver a year ago.
  • Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk wonders if the Giants could be a potential landing spot for Broncos QB Case Keenum, who is now available for trade, given that he played his best football while working with Pat Shurmur in Minnesota.

  1. Jay Glazer is RIGHT! I’ve been saying it for a while now, that OBJ’s tenure with the GMEN is over. OBJs new destination will most likely be to the Browns for their ’19 1st and 3rd round picks and the rights to WR Callaway. The 49ers may also be in play for OBJ with the recently released Pierre Garçon. I personally would inquire with the Steelers about a Brown for Beckham trade, both clubs would benefit greatly.
As for Case Keenum possibly being on the GMEN radar. I responded yesterday about that exact same scenario. As long as Gettleman does NOT get fleeced for picks, like Gettleman got in the Snacks Harrison trade for a 5th rounder. Don’t offer anything more then a 7th rounder for Keenum. Remember! Elway can’t afford Flacco’s and Keenum’s salaries, unless both QBs agree to restructured deals.
