NFC East Notes: Cowboys, Eagles, Giants, Redskins

Cowboys

Cowboys DE DeMarcus Lawrence said he is not disappointed that he was unable to finalize a long-term deal with the team prior to signing the franchise tag.

I ain’t tripping,” said Lawrence, via Todd Archer of ESPN. “What I got to trip for? It’s guaranteed.

Cowboys executive Stephen Jones said he is hopeful Lawrence can continue to produce and called his 2017 the end’s first “big year” in the league.

In this particular case I just feel like there’s some extenuating circumstances, as we know,” said Jones. “I mean, it was DeMarcus’ first big, big year. And I’m the first who thinks he’s going to have another and that’s what we’re wanting. But obviously anytime somebody has done it once there’s always, if you look at contracts in general, they don’t quite get maybe what they had if they had done four of those in a row.”

Lawrence added that he is not focused on his contract situation and letting his agent take care of negotiations.

I cant worry about that. We got jobs for everybody in this world, and that’s my agents job, to get the job done. I believe In him and trust him 100% he’ll get the job done. My job is to play football,” via SiriusXM NFL Radio.

  • According to Calvin Watkins, Cowboys OT Chaz Green was carted off the field at the end of Thursday’s practice due to an undisclosed injury.

Eagles

Eagles QB Carson Wentz (knee) said he likes where he is at with his recovery and believes the team has a “good plan” in place with his rehab.

We’ve got a good plan,” Wentz said, via Zach Berman of Philly News. “It’s not just me making a decision. It’s not just coach. It’s not just the docs. It’s a [combination] of everybody. …I like where I’m at right now.

Giants

  • Giants veteran S Landon Collins said he is completely recovered from his arm injury and is not limited “at all” in practice: “The arm is 100 percent. I’m not limited at all.” (Giants’ Twitter)
  • Giants HC Pat Shurmur said Thursday veteran DT Damon Harrison is being “eased” into training camp, but he did not provide an update on his injury. (Pat Leonard)

Redskins

Redskins QB Alex Smith said he still feels like his “best football” is ahead of him despite being 34-years old.

I don’t necessarily want to put a label, as far as ‘prime’ … but I feel like my best football’s still ahead of me, certainly,” Smith said, via Kimberly A. Martin of the Washington Post. “I still feel like I haven’t reached my potential and that still pushes me, challenges me to continue to try to get better.”

  • Redskins HC Jay Gruden said veteran DT Stacy McGee could start the regular season on the physically unable to perform list. (Rich Tandler)
