NFC East Notes: Cowboys, Eagles, Giants, Redskins

Cowboys

Seahawks CB Shaquill Griffin said that the Cowboys can expect an aggressive defense under new DBs coach Kris Richard.

The approach was just to be aggressive,” Griffin said, via Kate Hairopoulos of the Dallas Morning News. “You play your game and you win your one-on-one battles — and you hit. You compete and you be aggressive. … You can see how aggressive that back end is and we go for the ball. The main goal is to go for the ball.”

Eagles

  • Eliot Shorr-Parks of NJ.com writes that the Eagles should prioritize re-signing DT Beau Allen this offseason.
  • Shorr-Parks mentions that Allen is coming off of his best season in the NFL and the Eagles currently don’t have a clear option to replace him on their roster.
  • Although, Shorr-Parks admits that another team could end up making Allen an offer Philadelphia will be unable to match, given their current cap situation.
  • We have Allen featured in our Top 100  – 2018 NFL Free Agents list.

Giants

  • Albert Breer wonders if the decision to hire Mike Shula as their new offensive coordinator could open up the possibility that the Giants could seriously consider taking Oklahoma QB Baker Mayfield.
  • Breer notes that he has spoken with Shula on several occasions about college spread offenses while he was trying to find ways to most effectively use Cam Newton.

Redskins

Albert Breer reports that if the Redskins were to franchise QB Kirk Cousins with the intention of trading him to another team, Cousins’ representatives would quickly file a grievance to block tag, given that this would be Washington violating the spirit of the rules.

The franchise tag rules dictate that players can be tagged as a mechanism for teams to buy time toward getting a long-term deal finalized.
