NFC East Notes: Cowboys, Eagles, Giants, Redskins

Cowboys

Following Thursday’s win over the Saints, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones offered tempered support for HC Jason Garrett, saying: “Well, he’s won a big game tonight. I’ll just leave it at that. He won a big game tonight.

Jones was then asked if he was trying to be conservative in his praise of Garrett

What?” Jones said, via Pro Football Talk. “What? I’m not. Give him everything you should give him for having just beaten the top-rated team in the NFL. You’re the wordsmith. Give it to him. I’m serious. Give it to him, yes. Because we know how tough it is when it goes the other way. But give that to him, for sure.

  • Cowboys HC Jason Garrett said WR Cole Beasley suffered a sprained foot during Thursday’s game against the Saints, but added: “We’re hopeful it’s not going to be a long-term thing.” (Brandon George)

Eagles

Eagles backup QB Nick Foles admitted that it’s “weird” to not be playing, but he understands his role on the team.

“Football, it’s a strange sport. It definitely is weird, not playing, but at the same time, I’ve been in this role, too,” Foles said, via Phillly.com. “You’re always there, helping the defense in practice, helping Carson on the sideline, preparing in the morning with him. That’s part of it. That’s my role.

“I said coming into this, it’s a unique role that really has never been done in the NFL, and I want to embrace it genuinely.”

  • Eagles RB Darren Sproles said he finally feels healthy and expects to play Monday night. According to Sproles, he was dealing with more than a hamstring pull but didn’t go into detail about the issue. (Reuben Frank)
  • Sproles did, however, admit that he’s had two setbacks since the initial injury occurred.

Giants

Redskins

On Thursday, Redskins VP of personnel Doug Williams mentioned in an interview that  plenty of people “have done far worse” than what LB Reuben Foster is accused of doing to a woman in the 49ers’ team hotel and referred to the situation as “small potatoes.”

However, Williams apologized for his comments on Friday for being “insensitive.”

I apologize to the organization, my wife, my mom, my sisters and the six daughters that I have,” Williams said, via Pro Football Talk. “Never in my life could I have stated anything so insensitive as I said. I’m not going to sit here and make excuses because there is no excuse.
