NFC East Notes: Cowboys, Eagles, Giants, Redskins

Cowboys

  • According to Matt Verderame of Fansided, the expectation is that the Cowboys with either get a long-term extension in place for DE DeMarcus Lawrence before the start of free agency or use the franchise tag on him, which would cost them around $21 million fully guaranteed.
  • Verderame mentions that the franchise tag would be a “cap killer” for the Cowboys and it could create tension between the two parties if Dallas is unwilling to invest in Lawrence long-term.
  • Should the Cowboys pursue an extension, Verderame says Lawrence is expected to be seeking a $100 million deal with over $70 million guaranteed.

Eagles

  • Zack Rosenblatt of NJ.com writes that it’s “highly unlikely” the Eagles retain WR Nelson Agholor at his $9.38 million cap figure for the 2019 season.
  • If the Eagles are unable to trade or decide against cutting him, Rosenblatt mentions that Philadelphia could look to sign him to an extension that would give them some immediate cap relief.
  • Rosenblatt adds that DT Timmy Jernigan and LT Jason Peters are also worth watching as possible cap casualties for the Eagles this offseason.

Giants

  • A team source tells Ralph Vacchiano of SNY that the Giants are unlikely to draft Oklahoma QB Kyler Murray because he’s “probably a little too small” for them.
  • According to Vacchiano, the Giants prefer to stick to the established measurables they have for a prototypical quarterback, which means Ohio State’s Dwayne Haskins remains someone to watch for New York.
  • The New York Giants announced Monday that they’ve hired Henry Baker as their assistant DBs coach and Mike Dawson as their outside linebackers coach.

Redskins

  • According to NBC 4 Sports in Washington, Redskins video assistant Jack Gruden, who happens to be the son of HC Jay Gruden, was arrested early Saturday morning and charged with “being drunk in public after multiple confrontations.
  • The Redskins released the following statement regarding Gruden: “We are aware of the arrest of Jack Gruden. We are gathering more information and will not comment until we have further details.
