NFC East Notes: Cowboys, Eagles, Giants, Redskins

Cowboys

Cowboys free agent DE DeMarcus Lawrence says he understands he’ll be back in Dallas one way or another next year.

I mean I already know what my situation is,” Lawrence said, via Todd Archer of ESPN. “I really don’t care about it because I already know how the Cowboys feel about me and they know how I feel about the organization. My agent will take care of everything, bro. We know it feels. He knows my right moves, so he’ll do it.

If Lawrence and the Cowboys are unable to work out an agreement on a long-term extension, he’s an obvious candidate to be franchised.

We have him featured in our Top 25 – 2018 NFL Free Agents list.

Eagles

  • Eagles HC Doug Pederson announced Tuesday that Nick Foles will remain the team’s starting quarterback for their playoff game.
  • Pederson later texted Ian Rapoport: “My guy is Nick Foles, end of story.

Giants

Giants QB Eli Manning says he would like to return to New York under the right circumstances.

Yeah, I mean, this is what I want to do,” Manning said, via ESPN.com. “I want to play quarterback for the New York Giants. That’s what I hope happens, and obviously we’ll talk and figure out what’s the plan for the franchise going forward.”

Manning added that he believes he can still play at a high level.

“I feel like I can still play at a high level,” Manning said. “I feel like I can make the throws and, if you get the right guys around, that I can be very effective and play at an extremely high level.

Redskins

Redskins HC Jay Gruden offered a mixed response when asked to evaluate how he thought QB Kirk Cousins played for them in 2017.

“When you’re 7-9, you know it’s hard to say, ‘Wow, this guy really was outstanding,’” Gruden said, via Pro Football Talk. “Kirk had his flashes where he was really good. From a consistent standpoint, over the course of 16 games, you know, we’re 7-9. He did some great things, threw for over 4,000 yards and 29 touchdowns. So I think he’s a very, very good quarterback without a doubt, but as far as getting us over the hump from 7-9 to winning a division with all the injuries that we had, I think he competed and did some good things.
