NFC East Notes: Cowboys, Giants, Redskins


Cowboys HC Jason Garrett addressed the release of WR Dez Bryant Tuesday evening.

“It’s a challenging situation. A lot of different factors go into these kind of decisions,” Garrett said, per Jon Machota. “The guidepost for all this is what’s in the best interest of the Dallas Cowboys. We wish Dez nothing but the best going forward. He’s a special guy. I love him.

“I love Dez Bryant. He’s one of the great players to ever play for this franchise. It’s certainly an emotional time. It wasn’t an easy decision to make. … We’re gonna move forward, Dez is gonna move forward, and hopefully we’ll have a lifelong relationship.”

  • Cowboys TE Jason Witten reiterated that he plans to return for the 2018 season and has no interest in taking a job in television: “Hopefully I can play until I’m 40. Just taking it one year at a time.” (Jon Machota)

ESPN’s Todd McShay said Wednesday Penn State RB Saquon Barkley being selected by the Giants “feels inevitable.”

“I’ve heard very strongly that there are important people in the building who believe in Saquon Barkley and being a physical, run-first team,” McShay said, per Tom Rock. “Barkley can be the face of the team for the next 10 years. It feels inevitable that Saquon Barkley is going to be a NY Giant.”
