NFC East Notes: Eagles, Giants, Redskins

Eagles

Jimmy Kempski of Philly Voice takes a look at the linebacker position for the Eagles and who could be let go this offseason.
  • Eagles ILB Jordan Hicks is in line to be an unrestricted free agent, but Kempski can’t see him breaking the bank this offseason, due to durability concerns and decreased production. However, Kempski still thinks Hicks is a good player and the Eagles could attempt to bring him back on a one-year contract.
  • Kempski expects the Eagles to move on from LaRoy Reynolds and D.J. Alexander with B.J. Bello being a “long shot” to make the 53-man roster.
  • One interesting player to keep an eye on is Paul Worrilow, who is coming out off of a torn ACL. Kempski writes that the Worrilow could be a candidate to return on a veteran-minimum deal and see how he looks later this summer.

Giants

  • Dan Duggan of the Athletic writes that it would be “stunning” if the Giants picked up RB Jonathan Stewart’s 2019 option that would pay him a $2.35 million salary.
  • Duggan mentions that the Giants have until March 17 to make a decision regarding QB Eli Manning, seeing as he’s owed a $5 million bonus if he’s on their roster at that point. Releasing Manning would create $17 million in salary cap space to go along with $6.2 million in dead money.
  • On possibility to watch for the Giants and Manning, according to Duggan, is whether the team approaches him about a restructured contract that could reduce his 2019 cap figure.

Redskins

Former Redskins S D.J. Swearinger replied to a comment and took a shot at HC Jay Gruden

“Y’all will never win big bro,” Swearinger wrote, via the Washington Post. “I’ve seen championship swagger from a coach [Bruce Arians] he a OG. That coach y’all have will never win big cause it ain it him to coach discipline. it ain in him to chew somebody out in practice cause they lacking. when u say I’m a cancer for wanting to practice harder or wanting to get coached harder just to win then winning prolly not for you or you don’t understand that hard work pays off. Mediocre work get you beat! Remember This winners are born but champions are made. A strong leader of men make others around him better. Spread Peace Love And Elevation In everything you do lil brudda! Be Easy!!

  1. DJ Swearinger is 100% CORRECT. This is the EXACT reason the GMEN WILL NOT WIN with Putz Shurmur as the HC. Shurmur and Gruden are “cut from the same cloth” and it WILL NOT change.
Troy Aikman pointed out the LACK OF EFFORT from the GMEN on both sides of the ball during numerous games this season. That is a DIRECT REFLECTION OF THE HEAD COACH AND HIS STAFF. PERIOD!!!!!
Swearinger’s statement “Winners Are Born! But Champions Are Made” is the mentality the GMEN should have PULVERIZED into their brains. What do you expect though? John and Chris Mara were born with “silver spoons” in their mouths. The Mara offspring of Wellington NEVER had to truly work for anything in their lives. GM Dave Gettleman was a managing partner with ex-GM Jerry Reese until Gettleman got the Panthers GM job. So! It’s really a sign of GMEN insanity that they keep going into the past to move forward in the present and future. Putz Shurmur is nothing more then a position coach at best. Shurmur was supposed to be a QB Guru/QB Whisperer and look at how that worked out. Also! Putz Shurmur was an O-Lineman in his playing days and we all know how the GMEN O-Line diid under Putz’s tutelage. And I don’t want to hear about the 5 wins against backup QBs or the 4-4 record over the second half of the season. That’s just the Mara Brass and The Media making you believe that progress has been made. When in all actuality and reality your own eyes will never deceive you. That’s why MetLife Stadium was empty this year. Yet! Network coverage will “crop shot” views from field level and the announcers will tell you 70,000 were at the GMEN games. When everyone knows there was a ghost town at home games for the GMEN this season.
The GMEN need some DJ Swearingers and his attitude toward football on the roster next season and the future.
