NFC East Notes: Travis Frederick, Cowboys, Giants

Travis Frederick

  • Cowboys owner Jerry Jones told reporters on Thursday that they’re glad to know the issues surrounding C Travis Frederick’s Guillain-Barre Syndrome diagnosis. (Todd Archer)
  • However, Jones said that there’s no way of knowing when Frederick would be able to return: “His spirits are great.”
  • Sources tell Todd Archer that Frederick could miss multiple weeks of the season.

Cowboys

  • Cowboys HC Jason Garrett said Thursday that Joe Looney will see some work at center while Travis Frederick deals with an autoimmune disease. (Jane Slater)
  • The Cowboys plan to keep Zack Martin at right guard, but he’s also an in-house option to play center if needed.
  • Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said they have not held discussions about Frederick’s roster spot such as placing him on injured reserve with or without a designation to return. (Calvin Watkins)
  • Cowboys G Zack Martin said there’s “no doubt” he will be ready for Week 1.

Giants

Giants RB Jonathan Stewart does not think he was signed by New York to just play a mentor role to the younger running backs on the roster.

Right. And I don’t think the front office has me here just to mentor either,” Stewart said, via Ralph Vacchiano. “At the end of the day, it’s football and if you’re wearing pads and have a helmet you’re expected to contribute on the field.

  • Art Stapleton mentions that the Giants have the No. 2 spot in the waiver priority ahead of roster cuts. Stapleton adds that he wouldn’t be surprised if the Giants made three-four waiver claims next weekend.
