NFC Notes: 49ers, Cardinals, Cowboys

49ers

49ers DE Cassius Marsh, who spent a portion of the 2017 season with the Patriots, says he wasn’t surprised by QB Jimmy Garoppolo’s performance last year and the fact that he finished the season undefeated.

Marsh explains that Garoppolo would “shred” the Patriots first-team defense in practice all the time last year.

I already knew that was going to happen; I called it before anybody,” Marsh said, via the San Francisco Chronicle. “I knew because I was with the Patriots and he would shred our defense every day. He’d shred the first team every day, and it looked no different than when Tom was on the field. He’s a much better athlete than Tom; he’s super-disciplined and works hard. I’m very happy to have him as my quarterback.”

Cardinals

New Cardinals CB Jamar Taylor admitted that his “head’s still spinning” after the Browns made the decision to trade him a few weeks ago.

“My head’s still spinning,” Taylor said, via Kent Somers the Arizona Republic. “Obviously they didn’t have me in their plans up there (in Cleveland). I did what I needed to do up there, as far as trying to help change the culture. I was very loyal to the Browns. Letting me go definitely puts another fire in my gut.

Taylor agreed to a pay cut as part of the trade to the Cardinals, but he seems to find about it.

“I’m good,” Taylor said. “I don’t play this game for money. I started playing when I was 5 years old. It’s about having fun. It’s about being the best. At the end of the day, I’m trying to get where ‘21’ is at.

Cowboys

Cowboys veteran LB Sean Lee admitted that he’s had a tough time staying healthy the past few years, but he feels good about the team’s gameplan for him this offseason.

“I’ve had an issue staying on the field,” Lee said, via the Dallas Morning News. “Really, two years ago, I felt in ’15 and ’16, we did a good job staying on the field. Last year, I didn’t. So I think we have a great game plan to try to keep me out there.”
