NFC Notes: 49ers, Eagles, Panthers

49ers

49ers CB Richard Sherman tells Josina Anderson that he jogged on the field for the first time Wednesday and his Achilles “felt great” afterward.

Sherman added that he plans to be ready for the start of training camp this summer.

“I’ll be ready for training camp, but (the team) is going to be overly cautious either way,” Sherman said.

Eagles

During an appearance on Steve Austin’s podcast, Eagles RT Lane Johnson said that Chip Kelly went overboard in terms of sports science during his team as the team’s head coach.

“We major in sports science, which is good thing — we still do it here. But I think we kind of went overboard with that. I think a good way to put it is we majored in the minors instead of focusing on some of the main points that we needed to,” Johnson said, via Philly.com.

Johnson also said he didn’t agree with the decisions to move on from DeSean Jackson and LeSean McCoy.

“It was definitely exciting whenever he first came in, and we did some good things,” Johnson said. “Then we start getting rid of our best players. You’ve got DeSean Jackson, who can outrun everyone on the field. You’ve got Shady McCoy, who’s going to be one of the best running backs of all time. You just get rid of those guys just like that, and you set a tone. Players didn’t really like that.”

Panthers

  • According to Albert Breer, the NBA actually told Warriors PG Steph Curry that he couldn’t be part of Michael Rubin’s ownership group to purchase the Panthers because it violates a bylaw preventing players from forming business partnerships with owners of other teams.
  • Rubin happens to be a co-owner of the 76ers and Nets owner Joe Tsai was also part of the group.
  • Breer reports that new Panthers owner David Tepper consulted with Steelers GM Kevin Colbert and VP of football and business administration Omar Khan about current Panthers GM Marty Hurney and coach Ron Rivera. Breer says that Tepper received strong reviews regarding both of them.
