NFC Notes: Bears, Buccaneers, Packers

Bears

Bears WR Allen Robinson is set to debut for Chicago this Saturday when they take on the Broncos and appear in his first game since suffering a torn ACL last year.

“It’s something I’m ready for and excited for,” Robinson said, via the Chicago Sun-Times. “It’s been awhile. I’ve put the work in every day, trying to get better and perfect my craft.

Buccaneers

Buccaneers HC Dirk Koetter said Monday that RB Peyton Barber “is our starter.”

“Peyton is our starter,” Koetter said, via the Tampa Bay Times. “We’re definitely going to use Ronald Jones and take advantage of what he’s going to do. We do have the two veteran backs behind him. Again, we’ve got three more preseason games. Let’s just let it sort out a little more.

  • According to Greg Auman, RB Charles Sims is not a lock to make the Buccaneers’ 53-man roster, even though Tampa Bay likes him as their third-down back.
  • Auman adds that if rookie Shaun Wilson continues to impress, he could make the team at expense of Sims or Jacquizz Rodgers.

Packers

  • Packers GM Brian Gutekunst told reporters on Monday that fifth-round OL Cole Madison is still dealing with a personal matter away from the team: “We don’t expect Cole back anytime soon. … He’s dealing with an issue, and when that issue is resolved we’ll get back to the football part of it.” (Michael Cohen)
  • Madison’s agent tells Rob Demovsky that his client does plan to play at some point: “The plan is still to play. At this point, he’s still dealing with a personal thing like Brian said.”
