NFC Notes: Bears, Buccaneers, Panthers

Bears

  • Bears HC Matt Nagy said that tests on TE Adam Shaheen’s ankle revealed damage to his right foot. Nagy characterized the issue as a foot sprain and not a fracture, but there’s still no timeline for Shaheen to return. (Rich Campbell)
  • Bears first-round LB Roquan Smith left practice early due to slight tightness in his left hamstring. Nagy said of the injury: “We just wanted to be really (cautious) with it.” (Rich Campbell)

Buccaneers

  • Buccaneers first-round DT Vita Vea (calf) is now running and moving well, according to Jenna Laine. Vea should be ready soon.
  • As for Buccaneers CB Vernon Hargreaves, Laine says he returned to practice on Tuesday after suffering a groin injury two weeks ago and took first-team reps at nickel corner.
  • According to Rick Stroud, LT Donovan Smith and S Justin Evans are expected to be ready for Week 1’s game against the Saints, despite sustaining injuries on Tuesday.

Panthers

  • Panthers first-round WR D.J. Moore was cited earlier this month for doing 113 mph in a 65 mph work zone and charged with speeding, and speeding in a work zone at over 80 mph. (Charlotte Observer)
  • Panthers HC Ron Rivera said Moore came to them right away and explained and was very remorseful: “We chastised him, obviously…It’s an opportunity for him and other young guys to learn, ‘Hey, you have a responsibility to the community.’” (Jourdan Rodrigue)
