NFC Notes: Bears, Cowboys, Rams

Bears

Bears DL Akiem Hicks is in the final year of his contract and is currently without a free agent. Hicks says that he’s hoping to get what he deserves in free agency next year, but is willing to remain with the Bears long term.

“I know it’s not always the best way to think of it with this being a business, but I want to get what I deserve or get what I have earned,” Hicks said, via Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune. “If I earned a new contract, that’s what I earned. If I don’t, that’s the case. It’s really not up to me. I get to put my stuff on the field and show them what I can do, but I can’t make them go upstairs and sign me to a different piece of paper.

“Would I sign back in Chicago? Hell, yeah. In a heartbeat. My mom loves this city. I love this city. My mother was back there saying, ‘Oh, baby, Chicago wants you? You going to go play for Chicago?’ She loves it. She’s from here. It’s becoming home and I would love to continue playing here if the situation permits.

Cowboys

  • While Dez Bryant is interested in the Cowboys signing veteran CB Darrelle Revis, Todd Archer of ESPN writes that the only way he can see them having interest in Revis would be in the event they suffer an injury at cornerback.
  • Even then, Archer isn’t sold they would look to the free agent market and add someone like Revis, given that he doesn’t view him as a fit for their defensive scheme.
  • Instead, Archer could see Dallas looking to cover any injuries internally with some of their young players.
  • Another issue with adding Revis is the fact that his salary would be guaranteed for the season if he’s on their roster at the start of the season.
  • Dallas has also moved away from signing veteran players and passed on bringing back Brandon Carr, whom Archer views as a better player than Revis right now.

Rams

Rams COO Kevin Demoff stressed that there’s “urgency” from their end to get a long-term extension in place with DT Aaron Donald.

“He couldn’t be a better person, human being, leader … There’s a lot of time to get this done, but there’s an urgency on our part because you want to reward players like Aaron,” Demoff said, via ESPN.com. “Aaron deserves to be paid among the elite players in our game. That’s never been a sticking point for anybody in our organization.
