NFC Notes: Broncos, Cardinals, Jets

Broncos

New Broncos QB Case Keenum mentioned during an interview with Sirius XM NFL Radio that he was thrilled to get a call from John Elway saying that he wanted him to play for them in Denver.

“When my phone rang and it was John Elway telling me to come sign with the Broncos, it feels pretty good, especially as a kid growing up an Elway fan,” Keenum said, per Nicki Jhabvala. “We actually talked first when I got to Denver. It was great. Walking into his office there and it’s John Elway behind the desk. It’s Big John. He’s definitely a presence, obviously one of the greats that ever played the game. There’s a lot of tradition and history there, and a lot of it is because of him. It’s a cool atmosphere, a cool organization, and I’m just happy to be a part of it.

Cardinals

Cardinals CB Patrick Peterson tells James Jones of the NFL Network that he’d take Sam Bradford to be the team’s starting quarterback right now.

Well, right now I’d probably take Sam due to his experience. Due to some of the records that he has in the league. Because when Sam is healthy and is on the field and has talent around him, he’s a top-10 quarterback,” Peterson said.

“The biggest knock on Sam is just staying on the field. I think we have a pretty good opportunity to keep him on the field because last year he really didn’t have to fix anything, just cleaning up his knee. If he’s on the field, we’ll see where the chips stack and where they fall at the end of the season.

Jets

  • Brian Costello of the New York Post writes that Jets WR Quincy Enunwa‘s return from a neck injury will be a key storyline to watch during training camp.
  • Costello expects Enunwa to return to operating as the Jets’ slot receiver with Robby Anderson and Jermaine Kearse on the outside.
  • Beyond the neck injury, there’s also the fact that Enunwa didn’t get to play John Morton‘s offensive system, which has some similarities to Jeremy Bates’ scheme.
