NFC Notes: Buccaneers, DeSean Jackson, Falcons

Buccaneers

Buccaneers QB Jameis Winston says his benching is ” a minor setback for a major comeback.”

“It’s a setback,” Winston said, via the Tampa Bay Times. “But it’s a minor setback for a major comeback. It just tells you that you’ve got to continue to get better. I’ve never been in this situation before, so I have to learn from it and I have to grow from it. I have no choice.

  • Jenna Laine of ESPN reports that the Buccaneers “reached out” to teams about acquiring a cornerback prior to Tuesday’s trade deadline, but “nothing got serious” in the end.

DeSean Jackson

The Buccaneers didn’t trade WR DeSean Jackson, despite him making a request in recent weeks.

Jackson says he loves being in Tampa Bay and would still like to finish his career with the Buccaneers.

“I love it here in Tampa,” Jackson said, via JoeBucsFan.com. “You know, I’m raising my family. My family loves it down here. I love the weather, love the beaches. There’s a lot to do, but it’s still a low key quiet place, as well, too. The city’s embracing me, man. And I appreciate the fan support and all the love. Hopefully, man, I can end my career here. Retire as a Buc, man, that’s what I look forward to. And hopefully bringing a Super Bowl to Tampa Bay.

Falcons

  • According to D. Orlando Ledbetter, Falcons LB Deion Jones tested his broken right foot Wednesday.
  • Jones is currently on the Falcons’ injured reserve list, so he could be a candidate to be designated to return in the coming days.
