NFC Notes: Buccaneers, Eagles, Redskins

Buccaneers

Buccaneers K Chandler Catanzaro missed a field goal and an extra point against the Dolphins last week. However, he says he’s “gonna be fine” moving forward.

It’s taken some experience and it’s controlling what I could control, which is the next kick,” Catanzaro said, via Jenna Laine of ESPN.com. “I can’t control what people are saying about me, what’s going on outside of the circumstance — all I can control is my foot on the ball. It’s me and the ball out there. I’m gonna make a lot of kicks. I’m gonna be fine.”

Eagles

  • On Monday, a report surfaced that Eagles WR Alshon Jeffery may not be ready for the start of the season and could be a candidate to be placed on the reserve/PUP list. (NFLTR)
  • Eagles HC Doug Pederson told reporters on Tuesday that he doesn’t know where the Jeffery-PUP report came from. (Jimmy Kempski)
  • Pederson said that WR Nelson Agholor is sidelined with a lower-body injury. (Jeff McLane)

Redskins

  • The Redskins somewhat surprisingly released veteran CB Orlando Scandrick on Tuesday. (NFLTR)
  • Regarding the decision to release Scandrick, Redskins HC Jay Gruden said: “It has nothing to do with his play. It was really the emergence of the rookies and wanted Orlando to latch on to another team … No one could have predicted Texada or Danny Johnson.” (Kimberly A. Martin)
  • When asked if they would sign another veteran, Gruden said: “We’re going to go with what we have. We may sign another here shortly…” (Kimberly A. Martin)
  • Gruden did, however, add: “We still have time. If it doesn’t work out, or somebody gets injured, we still have time to make moves also ourselves.” (Kimberly A. Martin)
  • Jason La Canfora reports that the Redskins had been shopping Scandrick in recent days but found no teams willing to trade for him, which is why he was released.
  • According to John Keim, the Redskins thought CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie‘s asking price was too high earlier in the offseason. Keim adds that Washington isn’t interested in re-signing Bashaud Breeland.
  • Aaron Wilson reports that the Redskins worked out Southern Miss WR Allenzae Staggers on Monday.
