NFC Notes: Cardinals, Cowboys, Giants

Cardinals

Cardinals HC Steve Wilks made it clear on Friday that Sam Bradford is the team’s starter.

“We’re pushing everybody to start,” Wilks said, via NFL.com. “I’ve stated this several times: Sam Bradford is our starter. We gotta go out there with 11 guys and Sam’s going to be the first guy out there. But everybody’s fighting for a position, so I’m not going to hold [Josh Rosen] back at all.

“I want guys competing, I want guys fighting for a starting job. Whoever ends up winning the position, that’s who’s going to end up playing.

Cowboys

Regarding the team’s new receivers, Cowboys OC Scott Linehan said the team plans on moving around players around to multiple positions.

Yeah, we’re going to ask them to move around,” Linehan said, via Brandon George of the Dallas Morning News. “It’s not going to be set who plays [each receiver position] on any particular play. You certainly have to start there. You have to master your craft first and then put in all the wrinkles next.”

Linehan added that he plans to use recently acquired WR Tavon Austinin a lot of ways” and mentions he has the skill set as an outside receiver, slot receiver, and running back.

We’ll use him for a lot of things, but he’s a receiver first,” Linehan said. “He’s really, in a lot of ways, some of his skill set is as an outside receiver, which is really unique, but he can move around, the slot. He can certainly have carries as well as catches from those positions. He can move in the backfield at times – he’s done that his whole career – and if we get a matchup he can run a route that is typically run by a running back.”

As for who will be the team’s No. 1 receiver, Linehan said that they still “have questions” to answer at the position.

Right now we still have questions, but we feel like we have some really good answers here who are going to show us and the cream will rise to the top.”

Giants

Giants S Landon Collins recently said that offensive tackle Ereck Flowers has stayed away from the team’s offseason program because of the team’s decision to sign Nate Solder in free agency.

However, new Giants HC Pat Shurmur mentioned Saturday that it isn’t Collins’ place to comment on the situation involving Flowers.

“That’s not for Landon to talk about,” Shurmur said, via the New York Daily News. “I don’t think our players should be talking about another players’ situation.”

Shurmur added that Flowers has been in contact with the team, even though he isn’t taking part in offseason workouts.

“We’ve been in contact with Ereck. I heard he’s in good shape,” Shurmur said. “I can’t wait for him to be here. Like I said, there were some things he did last year that were really good. I look forward to him being here at some point and working with him.”
