NFC Notes: Cardinals, Packers, Vikings

Cardinals

Cardinals QB Mike Glennon said he understands his position as the backup after playing in that role the last few seasons.

That’s what I feel like I’ve done over the past few years, always prepare and be ready for that opportunity,” Glennon said, via Kyle Odegard of the Cardinals’ official site. “When I was the backup in Tampa, it never really came. You just never know. I know Arizona has had that come up a lot recently. You have to go in with the mindset of, ‘I have to be ready to go.’”

Cardinals HC Steve Wilks mentioned that Glennon will be ready to play if he’s needed.

A pro’s pro,” Wilks said. “He really is. He understands his role and he’s very passionate about what he does. He’s out there competing. If the opportunity arises, he’s going to be ready to play. He’s a team player, and that’s what I like about him.”

Packers

According to Packers president Mark Murphy, the newly restructured front office has “worked well so far.”

“Well, we’ll see how things play out,” Murphy said, via Forbes.com. “But my hope was it would improve communication. And quite honestly, with a new General Manager, a first time General Manager, putting him in a position where he can have success and really focus on the most important part of his job, which is the draft and acquiring players and determining the 90-man [roster] and the 53-man roster, I think it’s worked well so far.”

Vikings

  • Michael Rand of the Star Tribune does not think DL Danielle Hunter or LB Eric Kendricks’ extensions came as priorities over WR Stefon Diggs and LB Anthony Barr.
  • Rand believes it would be “very strange” for the Vikings to not re-sign Diggs given they just signed Kirk Cousins to a large contract and he expects the team to get deals done with both players at some point.
