NFC Notes: Cowboys, Eagles, Panthers

Cowboys

Cowboys executive Stephen Jones made it clear that they want to re-sign DE DeMarcus Lawrence to a long-term deal, but they’re prepared to franchise him if needed.

“We won’t let [Lawrence] not be a Dallas Cowboy next year. We’ll do everything he can to make something work, and if we don’t get it done then we’ll franchise him,” Jones said, via DallasCowboys.com. “Then we’ll go back to work. We’d like to not have that franchise tag hanging out there. We’ve got a big negotiation ahead of us. Be we don’t want DeMarcus Lawrence going anywhere.

When asked about Cowboys WR Dez Bryant, Jones said the team must make a “business decision” to make regarding his contract.

“No one wants to compete and get after it more than Dez,” Jones said, via David Moore of the Dallas Morning News. “At the same time, we all know this is a business where everyone had to be accountable…We’re going to be grinding it out trying to understand what is in our best interests of our business.”

Eagles

Jimmy Kempski of PhillyVoice.com continues his series of assessing who will return to the Eagles for the 2018 season and who will be moving on with the outside linebacker and cornerback positions.

  • Kempski writes that after a career year, CB Patrick Robinson is now in a position to cash in as a free agent this offseason. According to Kempski, Robinson is almost certain to be playing for another team in 2018.
  • As for outside linebacker, Kempski writes that the Eagles will likely retain Mychal Kendricks if they lose Nigel Bradham in free agency. However, should Bradham return and Philadelphia be comfortable with Jordan Hicks returning from an Achilles injury, Kempski says it would be too much to keep Kendricks around at the $7.6 million he’s owed.
  • In the end, Kempski thinks Bradham re-signs with the Eagles and they move on from Kendricks, possibly via trade.
