NFC Notes: Cowboys, Giants, Seahawks

Cowboys

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said the reports that DE Randy Gregory had a relapse are unfounded and that the only thing that would prevent him from playing in Week 2 is whether he’s able to clear the NFL’s concussion protocol.

“Just think that he’ll be, absent any issues with his health, I think he’ll be on the field and have no reason to think that he won’t,” Jones said, via Clarence Hill of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “I don’t where the media gets their way of expressing concern other than the fact that his status in the NFL is one that requires him to really be succinct in how he handles his business, which is unlike 95 percent of the players in the league aren’t tested randomly. So, he’s tested randomly as much as 10 times every two weeks. Those things always concern you. But as far as his availability for this coming Sunday, I think it’s great.

“I don’t think these reports have any substance at all if you really want to know the truth about it. It’s really not good that you can have these issues and have it speculated on and that in an of itself looks to everyone that there is something there. But I have seen too many times the media make these assertions or make these particular, or have these kind of prognosis but it be nothing but pulling it out of the air.

  • When asked about WR Dez Bryant partying with Jerry Jones during Beyonce show on Tuesday, HC Jason Garrett said: “You’ve heard me say it many times. Dez has been a great player for this organization for a long time. Made a big impact during his time here. We wish him nothing but the best.” (Clarence Hill)
  • Todd Archer reports that suspended Cowboys DL David Irving worked out with the team’s strength and conditioning staff for the first time Tuesday.
  • Garrett said DE Demarcus Lawrence has been dealing with a slight groin injury, but they’re hoping to have him back later this week. (Jordan Raanan)

Giants

Giants HC Pat Shurmur said OLB Olivier Vernon (ankle) will return to practice on Wednesday and is “getting closer” to full strength.

He’ll be out there this week,” Shurmur said, via Ralph Vacchiano. “He’s getting closer. He’s a fast healer, from what I’m told, and he’s going to be at practice [Wednesday] and throughout.”

Seahawks

Seahawks HC Pete Carroll said that they are considering moving RB C.J. Prosise to the receiver position.

We’ve been talking about it,” said Carroll, via ProFootballTalk. “He does have the background [with] a couple years in college.”
