NFC Notes: Eagles, Falcons, Redskins

Eagles

Eagles linebackers coach Ken Flajole explained that LB Mychal Kendricks, unfortunately, finds himself in a numbers crunch for playing time this year.

“If we were starting Nigel Bradham and Mychal Kendricks in our nickel package, you’d be asking me what does Jordan Hicks have to do to get on the field,” Flajole said, via Zach Berman of Philly.com.

“It’s a nickel league with a two-linebacker set right now. And unfortunately, the numbers crunch a little bit not in his favor right now. But he’ll have an opportunity. We have a three-linebacker package in our nickel, and he’ll be important in that. And as I tell him, even though you’re not on the field right now, you’re an ankle sprain from being. So we’re counting on you that way. He’s embraced that. I wouldn’t expect him to like it. I wouldn’t expect anyone who’s playing not to like it. But he’s got to stay ready.”

Falcons

  • According to D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal Consitution, a notable position battle for the Falcons this offseason will be between Wes Schweitzer and Ben Garland for the starting right guard role.
  • Falcons HC Dan Quinn mentioned earlier this offseason that he is “excited” about Schweitzer’s progression: “We are excited about where Wes is headed.

Redskins

  • According to Jeff Darlington, the more he hears about negotiations between the Redskins and Kirk Cousins, the more he thinks that the only realistic chance the team had at re-signing him was directly after their decision to promote Cousins ahead of Robert Griffin III as their starting quarterback.
  • Rich Tandler of CSN Mid-Atlantic believes that Cousins wants a contract that would be “impossible” for the team to back out of after at least two years, “very painful” to move on after three and “manageable” to release after four years.
