NFC Notes: Eagles, Saints, Seahawks

Eagles

While Eagles WR Nelson Agholor has yet to live up to his draft status since he was the team’s top pick a few years ago, WRs coach Mike Groh believes that he still has first-round talent.

Nelson Agholor’s a first-round pick and he’s got first-round talent,” Groh said, via Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Groh added that despite his early struggles, it can take a player a few years to start showing the kind of potential people saw in him coming out of college.

“I think that two years is a fair timeline,” Groh said. “I used to hear Coach [Bill] Parcells talk about it all the time — by the third year, a guy ought to tell you who he’s exactly going to be at this level. Nelson is going into his third year, but a number of guys going into their third year – that’s where they really show who they’re going to be.

Saints

Despite playing a big role for the Saints last year, LB Craig Robertson is well aware that this won’t guarantee him anything in 2017, especially now that New Orleans signed free agent LBs A.J. Klein and Manti Te’o and used a third-round pick on LB Alex Anzalone.

It doesn’t matter; that’s last year,” said Robertson, via Josh Katzenstein of The Times-Picayune. “It’s a what-have-you-done-for-me-lately league, and you got to show that you’re an even better player than what you were last year. So, you can’t look back at last year and be like oh I did this. None of that matters. It’s all about now.”

Seahawks

Seahawks HC Pete Carroll said recently signed QB Austin Davis has done “very well” since joining the team.

Austin did really well,” Carroll said, via Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times. “Amazingly bright football player. He blew us away with how fast he could pick stuff up. He brings more playtime experience, just in the meeting room that we treasure. He’s been there, he’s played games and all that. Trevone hasn’t had that and can’t have that yet. It’s been a good mix so far. So we brought him in and we’ll make these evaluations as we get back but I think Austin showed very well for himself. He’s got his own style. He’s a different style player than Trevone or Russell (Wilson) of course, but I kind of like what he brought us.”

Carroll added that second-year WR Tanner McEvoy had surgery to remove a little bone from his big toe which bothered him last season.

He had to have a little bone removed in his big toe and it’s all healed and ready to go for now to get on course to get in shape again,” Carroll said. “So he had a big setback. It was a big setback for him. It bothered him some last year and it was just too aggravated and he had to get worked on.”
