NFC Notes: Falcons, Packers, Vikings

Falcons

The Falcons placed a second-round tender on S Ricardo Allen before the start of free agency. However, he is the only restricted free agent who is still unsigned at this point.

Allen says he’s still hoping to secure a long-term extension from the Falcons.

“I have a tender,” Allen said, via MyAJC.com. “I haven’t signed it yet. That’s what you all hope for (a long-term contract).

“I just take it day by day,” Allen said. “I come out here and do my best for the team. I put myself in a good situation and I want to keep going.”

Packers

Packers president Mark Murphy said during an interview with Sirius XM NFL Radio that he’s “very hopeful” they’ll be able to get a long-term extension in place with QB Aaron Rodgers that will compensate him at a level and still allow them to compete for titles.

“I’m very hopeful,” Murphy said. “I don’t think there’s anything really to wait for now. All the (NFL’s other major quarterback) contracts have been done. I’m very optimistic that Russ Ball, our vice president who handles all of our negotiations, that he and David Dunn, Aaron’s agent, can figure out a way to get this done in a way where Aaron is compensated to the level he should be, yet we still can compete for Super Bowl championships.

“And, really, we both want that. Obviously, Aaron wants to be compensated well, but he’s also extremely driven to win championships and you like to see that in your players.

Vikings

  • Vikings LB Anthony Barr, who is an extension candidate this offseason, did not take part in the team’s voluntary OTAs on Wednesday.
  • Ben Goessling notes that Barr was at the Vikings’ facility over the weekend to help out with HC Mike Zimmer’s football camp. Beyond that, Barr does not have a workout bonus in his fifth-year option, so there’s no money at stake for him until mandatory camp begins.
  • Vikings DE Everson Griffen was held out of Wednesday’s OTA practice due to “a little tweak.” (Courtney Cronin)
