NFC Notes: Falcons, Panthers, Rams

Falcons

Falcons QB Matt Ryan explained that he and the team moved on from the disappointing Super Bowl loss months ago.

“We’re already back at it,” Ryan said, via D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “When we started as a team in April, we got together before that as players down in Miami. It was time to move on. It was time to look forward.

“Anytime that we kind of dwell on that is wasted time. We have to focus on trying to become the best football team that this group can be.”

Ryan added that they realize this year’s team will be different and their focus is on the 2017 season.

“But this year’s group is different and this team is different,” Ryan said. “We have to find a way to become the best football team that we can, find ways to get better and improve. That’s what we are trying to do.

“Our focus is what is front of us. We learned a lot from last year. We’ll take those learning lessons with us, but we have to find a way to make this group the best group that we can be.

Panthers

  • Joe Person of the Charlotte Observer writes that Panthers WR Kelvin Benjamin appears to have worked his way back into shape after showing up to offseason workouts heavier than expected.
  • According to Person, the Panthers appear to be ready to move on from LT Michael Oher, who has yet to clear the concussion protocol.
  • Carolina has been getting first-round RB Christian McCaffrey involved in a number of ways including taking direct snaps in the Wildcat, being used a decoy on end-arounds, and even throwing a pass.
  • Person lists OT Daryl Williams, WR Russell Shepard, TE Chris Manhertz, LB David Mayo and S Dean Marlowe as five under-the-radar players worth keeping an eye on during training camp.

Rams

Rams QB Jared Goff mentioned that he’s picked up Sean McVay’s offensive system “much quicker” than he learned last year’s.

“I’d say I’ve understood all of it and grasped all of it so far,” Goff said, via ESPN.com.

Goff added that spending an entire season in the NFL and having a full offseason has helped him this time around.
