NFC Notes: Giants, Packers, Seahawks

Giants

Giants S Landon Collins mentioned during an appearance on WFAN’s “Boomer and Gio” Friday that he texted holdout OT Ereck Flowers, but didn’t hear back from. After speaking with his cousin, who happens to be close to Flowers, Collins said the Nate Solder‘s signing is the reason he isn’t with the team.

“He’s just unhappy that they picked up [Nate Solder],” Collins said, via SNY.com. “That’s it.

Collins added that Flowers should be with the team right now, as they’re installing the new offensive scheme.

“Definitely, I would say he needs to be here, as a teammate and as a captain because we need him here, need to get the line together so they can be on the same page,” Collins said. “We got a quarterback, we got a running back, we got these talented wide receivers, we got to run with this.”

“After being a first-round draft pick,” Collins said of Flowers, “he don’t want to be called a bust.”

Packers

Packers HC Mike McCarthy spoke highly of new backup QB DeShone Kizer and believe he would have been a top quarterback prospect had he been in this year’s draft class.

“In my opinion, if he was in that class this year, he would’ve been part of that group of first four guys, or first five. I always felt there were five, the five quarterbacks, first-round guys,” McCarthy said of Kizer, per Rob Demovsky. “I think he has exceptional arm talent. What we’re asking him to do is, particularly the footwork and just how he fits the scheme, and how he operates is brand new to him. That always excites me, because when you see that guy has no experience or background but has the ability, to me that’s an opportunity for a lot of growth. So I think he has a bright future.”

Seahawks

Seahawks HC Pete Carroll said he had to rein fifth-round pick Shaquem Griffin in a bit during rookie minicamp because he was “very aggressive.”

[Shaquem] looked very aggressive,” Carroll said. “We had to slow him down some early on in the practice and in the walkthrough, he was going too hard. So we had to chill him out a little bit. But he’s very excited about being here. He’s a very good looking prospect. He’s big and fast and had a good feel for what’s going on. Obviously, [brother Shaquil Griffin] had done a little bit of tutoring – he was ahead of us a little bit with his learning, which was good.”
