NFC Notes: Giants, Redskins, Vikings

Giants

  • Matt Lombardo of NJ.comhighly doubts” the Giants will use a future draft on one of the available players in this year’s Supplemental draft.
  • However, if they were to take one of the five eligible prospects, Lombardo says that Mississippi S Brandon Bryant would be the name to watch.

Redskins

Assuming the Redskins stay relatively healthy this season and the team goes 7-9 or 8-8, John Keim of ESPN believes HC Jay Gruden would likely be on the hot seat, as this would be the third straight season without a playoff appearance.

Gruden has made it clear that he expects QB Alex Smith to step in and help the team win right now.

“He has got to get it down by the first game,” Gruden said. “We are not in here to build the team around him, the team is built and he has to lead it like right now. This isn’t a two- or three-year process. This is a one-year process and we have got to win right away.”

Vikings

  • Charley Walters of the Pioneer Press mentions that Vikings WR Stefon Diggs‘ next contract could end up being worth nearly $50 million over four years.
  • As for OLB Anthony Barr, Walters reports that he’s believed to be seeking at least a four-year deal worth about $12 million a season. However, Walters would be surprised if Minnesota offered him as much as $10 million per year.
  • Some potential cap casualties for the Vikings next year, according to Walters, could include S Andrew Sendejo, OL Mike Remmers and TE Kyle Rudolph.
  • Walters adds that DT Linval Joseph and DE Everson Griffen could be included in this group if they don’t have strong 2018 seasons and are unwilling to accept pay cuts.
  • As for OL Nick Easton, Walters isn’t sure there’s going to be enough cap room to sign him to an extension.
