NFC West Notes: 49ers, Cardinals, Seahawks

49ers

The 49ers elected to cut veteran OLB Elvis Dumervil loose back in March, but didn’t rule out the possibility of bringing him back at some point if their situation were to change.

Last week, 49ers GM John Lynch was asked if re-signing Dumervil could be an option after the draft.

“Yeah, I think it could be,” Lynch said, via the San Francisco Chronicle. “I’m sure a lot of (teams) are looking at it as such. Elvis isn’t a guy who at this stage of his career really needs to be around in an offseason. He’s a professional. He takes tremendous pride in how he trains, how he eats and all those things. So he’ll be ready.

Cardinals

  • Mike Jurecki reports that Cardinals RB Elijhaa Penny is making the transition to H-back this season in order to give himself an opportunity for more offensive snaps while continuing to play on special teams.

Seahawks

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, citing a source with knowledge of the situation, reports that Seahawks QB Russell Wilson expects to finish out his contract and then receive the franchise tag in 2020.

At that point, it would cost the Seahawks around $30.34 million or so to franchise him.

Florio mentions that if this ends up being the case, it could set up a similar situation as what took place between the Redskins and Kirk Cousins and result in Wilson going year to year.

A second franchise tag would cost the Seahawks $36.41 million and a third franchise tag be over $50 million.
